Jarno Trulli "I've always sought perfection in everything I do, in a racing car where split seconds make the difference, and in the vineyard where it takes years of hard work to give our wine it's special Character and originality."

Formula 1 superstar, Jarno Trulli, escapes the pressures of Formula 1 racing by retreating to his own private vineyard in the Abruzzo region of his Italian homeland, where he is producing some extremely fine wines.
Trulli has been competing in F1 since 1997 and racing since 1983. For the past 10 years, he also has been deeply involved in his other "profession," making wine.
His winery and vineyards are located at an altitude of 1,083 feet (330 meters) about 18 miles (30 km) inland from Pescara, an east coast town located in southern Italy on the Adriatic Sea. Rome is situated almost due almost west of Pescara.
|

|
Jarno Trulli proudly explanes that "the historic farm was already well known in 1793 under the name of Casino Castorani."
The vineyard today, consists of thirty hectares: the cultivated vines are mostly Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. There is also Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Malvasia and a small area reserved to experimental varieties. |
The average age of vineyards is over twenty-five years therefore they are very interesting from the oenologic point of view. All the land is cultivated by biological agricultural methods, without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. They use biological and organic fertilizers. |
Bruno Cavuto, one of the four partners, takes care personally of the cultivation: he chooses the older and better exposed vineyards to grow small batches of high quality wines. In the past the firm’s production was sold entirely to a co-operative.
The wine-making control is taken care of by another partner, the oenologist Luca Petricelli, who is a very experienced international wine maker. He is actually the technical director of the wine cellars “Bodegas del Conde de Navasques”, in Spain.
The third partner, Lucio Cavuto, takes care of the marketing. For many years he carries out managerial operations in the world of Formula 1: therefore he has gained a great international experience in managing the image and the various entrepreneurial aspects. |
 |
|
Finally the “Podere Castorani” can brag about a particular partner: Enzo Trulli, father of the formula 1 pilot Jarno Trulli. This last one indirectly provides a remarkable international notoriety to the firm.
|

|
Furthermore Jarno is the “testimonial” for the Abruzzo region. In fact, he was designated to represent the abruzzese wine in the world at the last “Vinitaly” in Verona. Enzo Trulli, who is proud of a long business experience, takes care of the sales sector of the wine firm.
As you would expect from a 'high-tech' perfectionist, the winery is fitted with the most modern technology. Whites are pressed in modern basket presses and includes a grape dying room, allowing for the production of "jarno", an Amarone type wine of which the garnd prix ace is particulary proud.
|
Jarno proudly explained, "We have a serious winery, vineyard, factory and a brand-new, underground, 3,000 square-meter (32,292 square feet) cellar. It is a big investment, but we are doing well. I am very happy."
"We export wine nearly everywhere in the world, from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Japan to Europe and elsewhere," Trulli said. "We started with 18,000 bottles and now we produce nearly a million bottles.
"All our wines are good quality. Obviously, with my name we have to ensure that the quality is right. People enjoy our wine. It is a big success. And it's a big satisfaction for me because we are doing pretty well."
Jarno's name appears on many of the bottles, along with his description of the wine.
Vinification is overseen by experts, with macerations of over 40 days. The wine is aged slowly in small oak barrels, without using stabilizers or filtration, in order to preserve its natural and territorial characteristics, and it receives a further fining in the bottle.
In addition to the estate's Abruzzo wines, Podere Castorani vinifies a selection of wines from other areas made with the same attention to detail and high standards as their estate wines.
